Set how many visits per month each visitor sees pops for, so your plan's usage stretches across more shoppers.
Overview
High traffic is great, until it eats through your plan's usage before the month is over. Returning shoppers are often the reason, because every repeat visit uses up part of your plan. With Display limit per visitor, you cap how many visits each month a visitor sees pops for. Once they reach that number, pops stop showing to them and their extra visits stop counting toward your plan. Your usage then goes toward reaching new shoppers instead, so you reach more people without a surprise upgrade to the next plan.
Key benefits
Stay within your plan: keep high-traffic months under control without upgrading to the next tier
Reach more shoppers: spread your plan's usage across more people instead of the same returning visitors
Your limit, your call: keep pops unlimited, or stop them after a number of visits you choose
Automatic monthly reset: every visitor's count goes back to zero at the start of each month
Available on all plans: every Sales Pop plan includes this setting
How visits are counted
Your plan's usage is measured in visits. Sales Pop used to call these sessions.
A visit starts when someone arrives at your store and lasts while they browse. If the same person leaves and comes back later, that's a new visit.
Browsing several pages: counts as 1 visit
Opening your store in several tabs at once: counts as 1 visit
Leaving and coming back later: counts as a new visit
For example, if a shopper visits your store today, comes back next week, and returns again the week after, that's 3 visits from 1 person. You can track your total visits for the month under Visitors in the bottom-left corner of your dashboard.
How Sales Pop recognizes a visitor
Sales Pop identifies visitors by their browser. Every visit from the same browser adds to that visitor's count.
If a shopper switches to a different browser, opens your store in an incognito or private window, or visits from another device, Sales Pop treats them as a new visitor and their count starts from zero.
How display limit per visitor works
Every time someone visits your store, Sales Pop checks how many times that same visitor has already visited this month. It counts only that one visitor's visits, not your store's total traffic.
Under the limit: the visitor sees pops as normal, and the visit counts toward your plan usage
Limit reached: none of your pops show to that visitor for the rest of the month, and their visits stop counting toward your plan. This applies to all pops, site-wide, not just one pop type.
New month: the visitor's count resets to zero and pops show again
Unlimited selected: there's no limit, so pops show on every visit and every visit counts toward your plan
Closing a pop hides all pops for the rest of the visit
If a visitor clicks the X on any pop, Sales Pop hides all pops for the rest of that visit. On their next visit, pops show again as long as they haven't reached your display limit.
How to set a display limit per visitor
In the left menu, click Pop Settings.
On the General Settings tab, find the Display limit per visitor box.
Select Stop showing after.
Enter the number of visits. The minimum is 1.
Click Save at the top of the page.
To remove the limit, select Unlimited and click Save. Pops will then show on every visit. Changed your mind before saving? Click Discard to undo your changes.
Notes:
New stores start with Unlimited selected, so there's no display limit until you set one.
The visit count resets at the start of each month, even though the setting itself doesn't say so.
Tip: Not sure where to start? Try a limit of 3–5 visits. If you still go over your plan's usage, lower it a little more.
FAQs
Can a display limit per visitor help me avoid upgrading my plan?
Yes, that's exactly what it's for. Once a visitor reaches your limit, Sales Pop stops showing them pops and their extra visits stop counting toward your plan. This spreads your usage across more shoppers.
Does opening my store in several tabs count as several visits?
No. One person browsing in several tabs at the same time counts as 1 visit. It only becomes a new visit when they leave and come back later.
What happens if I go over my plan's usage?
pops get disabled for the rest of the month.
Why did pops stop showing for me on my own store?
You've probably reached your own display limit as a visitor this month. To check your pops, open your store in an incognito window or a different browser. Sales Pop will treat you as a new visitor, so you'll see pops again.
When does a visitor's count reset?
At the start of each month.
When a visitor hits the limit, does it stop all pops or just one?
All of them. Once a visitor reaches the limit, none of your pops show to them anywhere on your store until the next month.
What happens when a visitor closes a pop?
Clicking the X on any pop hides all pops for the rest of that visit. Pops show again on their next visit, as long as they're under your display limit.
What's the lowest limit I can set?
1 visit per month. With a limit of 1, visitors see pops on their first visit each month only.
